Open-Mouth Bagger vs Valve Bagger
Granules and pellets (grain, rice, seed, feed, beans, sugar, fertilizer) usually go in open-mouth bags. Fine, aerated powders such as cement and mineral fillers usually go in valve bags. The table below covers the rest.
Ask which type fits your product
Side by side
| Open-mouth bagger | Valve bagger | |
|---|---|---|
| Filling | Bag clamped open under a spout, product drops in | Bag slipped onto a spout through a corner valve |
| Closing | Sewing, sewing + crepe tape, heat sealing | Valve self-closes; ultrasonic or heat seal optional |
| Typical products | Grain, rice, seed, feed pellets, beans, sugar, granular fertilizer | Cement, mortar, mineral fillers, some flours and chemicals |
| Bags | Woven PP, BOPP laminated, kraft paper, PE; flat, gusseted, handle | Purpose-made paper or PP valve bags |
| Bag cost | Lower, many local suppliers | Higher, fewer suppliers |
| Dust | Spout dust extraction; fine for most granules | Closed valve keeps fine powder inside |
| Weighing | Usually net weighing (hopper, then bag) | Often gross weighing (bag weighed while filling) |
| Upgrade path | Manual placing, then automatic bag placing, then robot palletizing | Bag applicators; rotary packers for cement |
EWINALL builds open-mouth systems. If your product belongs in a valve bag, we will say so.

Fully automatic bag pick-up uses suction, so bags must be non-porous. Porous nonwoven bags run on semi-automatic scales. Fully automatic machines · Packaging scales
Five details to send with an inquiry
| Detail | Example | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Feed pellets, bulk density | Feeder type and dust control |
| Bag | BOPP woven, 50 lb, M-side | Automatic pick-up or manual placing |
| Output | 600 bags/hour now, 900 in 3 years | Semi or fully automatic |
| Closing | Sewing + crepe tape | Closing head and conveyor |
| After closing | Robot palletizing later | Floor space and conveyor height |
Bag to pallet

Typical sequence: bagger, closing, check weigher, metal detector, EC-171 robot palletizer (160 kg payload, up to 1,600 cycles/hour), stretch wrapper. See end-of-line systems and customer projects.
Common questions
Which is more accurate?
It depends mainly on the weighing method. Open-mouth systems for granules usually net-weigh in a hopper before the bag; the DCS-50FB3 is published at ±0.1% F.S.
Can an open-mouth bagger handle flour or other powders?
Yes, with an auger feeder and spout dust extraction; the DCS-50FT is built for powders. Very fine, aerated powders such as cement are usually better in valve bags.
Is a valve bagger faster?
Not by default. For granules, a dual-hopper open-mouth scale runs 600–1,080 bags/hour on 5–25 kg bags, comparable to a single-spout valve packer.
Can I start semi-automatic and upgrade later?
Often yes. Give us your 3-year output target and the scale, conveyor and closing unit can be laid out for reuse when automatic bag placing or palletizing is added.
North American power?
220/240 V, 60 Hz configurations depending on the machine. See the North America page and 50 lb bag filling machines.
